Estella

By having beautiful aspects, Estella thinks that the sun rises and sets around her. In the Latin language, Estella means "star." When Pip first arrives at the Satis House, he sees Estella as an older woman who is, "beautiful and self-possessed" (56). In Pip's eyes, Estella is a shining star that is the brightest in the sky. Using her beauty, Estella can manipulate and mesmerize people to do what ever she wants. She can insult people and make them feel lower than her because she is such a manipulative person. Dickens uses the word "queen" to describe Estella, this is a fitting description because the name Estella derives from star. A queen is highly revered by her people, so does a star in the sky. A star in the sky is one of the most majestic objects in the world. By having a name such as Estella, she must have beauty. Dickens chose the perfect description to go with the name Estella because of her beauty and self-possession.
